About Us Wendel Quartet

Founded in 2024 at the Musik-Akademie Basel, the Wendel Quartet was awarded a prize at the Orpheus Chamber Music Competition the same year, and were soon after invited to some of the most renowned Festivals of chamber music in Switzerland, Italy and Liechtenstein. In 2025 they performed in festivals such as Musikdorf Ernen, Swiss Chamber Music Festival Adelboden, Musica Insieme Bologna and Kloster Engelberg Concert Series.

Since 2024, the quartet has been working with renowned teachers such as Anton Kernjak, Silvia Simionescu and Claudio Martínez Mehner. The Wendel Quartet is part of “Le Dimore del Quartetto”, an international network of ensembles of various kinds whose aim is to promote young and promising groups with a strong artistic view through the form of Artistic Residences and concerts engagements.

Committed to a curious and passionate approach to chamber music, the Wendel Quartet was brought together through a common musical intuition and a shared enthusiasm for the piano quartet repertoire. Alongside the masterpieces written for this formation, the ensemble is enthusiastic to program contemporary quartets, as well as less known composers’ works. The name “Wendel” finds its origins both in the nordic root “Wende” (which also became “to Wander”), and the German word “Wendepunkt” - turning point, which is a principle used in both mathematics and musical analysis.

Engagements in 2026 include the Davos Festival, Musikdorf Ernen, Klassik Podium Winterthur and the Nexus Konzerte Series.
